Welcome to Radioactive 1991-1998

The show aired on Power 99 in Philadelphia and was one of a few major Hip Hop shows in American at that time. If you love Hip Hop, a real fan of the music this site is perfect for you. What was Jay-Z like before “REASONABLE DOUBT”? How was Tupac the night of “JUICE”? Remember Jeru the Damaja? Imagine Nas talking about “ILLMATIC” before he recorded it. Biggie right before and right after “READY TO DIE” Old Dirty Bastard with a drunken freestyle. Fat Joe introducing his protege Big Pun. What makes this site even more unique is that you can actually listen to the shows as they aired during that time.

Enjoy…

September 14, 1991|| Queen Latifah “Nature of a Sistah”

ccqueen2 I was a Queen Latifah fan before I had Radioactive, when she came to Philly during her first album she would always show me love even though I wasn’t on the air yet. When I finally got my own show I asked her to be on so when she was about to release her second album she came down to support. There are so many people that only know Latifah the actress not Latifah the MC. Pop the top to take you back with the Queen. (more…)

THROWBACK: 3 Times Dope

I came across this recent performance in Philly from Robert “EST” Waller from 3xdope, what can I say about the group back in the late 80’s and in early 90’s. We were all around the same age and I was just getting my feet wet in radio, I didn’t have Radioactive yet but I was the young buck at the station that was cool with the rappers. (more…)

1000.13713.71247.wutang-784867 This was a day I will never forget cause I almost lost my job. Protect Your Neck was blowing up and this was my first interview with the Wutang right before the release of 36 Chambers which is one of the best Hip Hop albums ever recorded. (more…)

Dec 3, 1993 || Eazy E talks up his Beef with Dr. Dre/Suge

// June 6th, 2010 // No Comments » // Blog, RadioActive

082-Eazy-E-PD This was a very interesting interview, I was always an NWA fan from the door and Eazy’s first album was a classic. In fact LiL Wayne’s hype and success reminds me of Eazy E back in 89. This was before the internet and media where you only saw your favorite rappers on YO MTV raps. This however was 4 years later after both Ice Cube and Dr. Dre left. Dr. Dre was in the midst of his Chronic album and the classic “Dre Day” song where they took major swipes at Eazy E. (more…)

Oct 8, 1994|| Common Talks “I Used To Love Her”

// June 6th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Blog, RadioActive

common Many people that love Common don’t know his entire history as an artist, before he was a big movie star he was a struggling artist not from New York trying to find his way around a very biased hip hop community. Common Sense (His original name) was one of my favorite guests on the show, mainly because he wasn’t like most of the rappers. (more…)

Nov 3, 1995|| Fat Joe Introduces Protege Big Pun

Big-Pun-Fat-Joe
This was one of those nights in hip hop history, Fat Joe had just released his classic album J.O.S.E. and I had him doing a show in Philly this night. Me and Joe have history from the beginning of his career, his first time out of NY he came to Philly in 1993 to do a show and I put him up in a fancy hotel. He was so excited, he wanted to chill instead of hang out. If you ever see Joe mention Colby Colb and I promise he will tell you that story. Here we are a few years later and his second album was out and he shows up with his protege Big Pun and they do a killer freestyle. This is the actual Radioactive show that night so if you love hip hop enjoy the sounds of the Fall of 1995, if you click through around the 28:00 mark you will be able to hear interview, Enjoy. Jay-Z-TheBlueprint-1
This was a very interesting interview with Jayz from a time period standpoint. His album was moved up to September 11th, 2001 because of massive bootlegging. This was one week after Aliyah died and a week before 9/11. (more…)

notorious-big-31 The first time I met BIG was at the Jack The Rapper Convention in the summer of 1993. On the tale end of Puff’s time at Uptown he put out a sampler cassette tape (remember cassettes?) with several B.I.G. songs on it. (more…)
